I had the opportunity to attend the Chicago Flower Show with COUNTRY Financial this week to experience how agriculture meets urban gardening, and learn about their initiatives to help Illinois Farmers. Since 1926, COUNTRY Financial has been helping Illinois farmers by providing insurance offerings to help farmers protect the things that are important to their livelihood. I have never been to the Chicago Flower Show and excited to get inspired!
The decor and different gardens were stunning and got me in the mood for spring and summer. After visiting COUNTRY’s urban garden inspired setup, it also got me thinking about the best veggies and herbs I can plant, or even grow in my house for my dogs. There are so many benefits to feeding your dogs extra veggies and herbs… antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients – just to name a few.
As you might know from my recipes, my pups favorite veggies are sweet potato, carrots, spinach, kale, broccoli, parsley, pumpkin, squash and red pepper. At the show, I also picked up a lavender plant for my office – not for consumption, but for stress relief for my pups!
I put together a list of veggies and herbs for your dogs inspired by my visit to the Chicago Flower Show with COUNTRY Financial. They also inspired me to start a mini urban garden, and I am excited to add that to my list of DIY projects for the summer, stay tuned!
You can also WIN a $1,500 garden makeover if you live in Illinois. Share a photo at the Chicago Flower Show using #CFGardenMakeover and tag COUNTRY Financial to enter!
- Bell peppers
- Green beans
- Green peas
- Sweet Potato
- Lavender – having a lavender plant around isn’t for consumption but for anti-anxiety benefits. They are fragrant plants and can ease tension for dogs (and people).
Check out more photos from the show and let me know if you stopped by or have a garden for you and your pups!
