Dogs can experience all sorts of unpleasantries in and on their paws, especially city dogs. Walking on city sidewalks, dirt, grass, mud, ice in the winter, etc. – I don’t even want to think of all the germs their paws collect. When it rains, their paws just absorb all the city gunk. I wanted to be able to scrub and exfoliate their paws without having to give them a full on bath. So, I made my own paw scrub for my pups so I can get in and wipe away the grit and dirt while smoothing their paw pads.

Benefits:
The benefits to a paw scrub are just the same for human skin. The two sugars used have moisturizing properties, honey is high in potassium which wipes away bacteria and olive oil smooths and replenishes paw pads. If you use the essential oils, lavender will soothe the skin and lemon also helps eliminate bacteria. Do not use a paw scrub if your dogs have any cuts on their paws because it can sting!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of organic brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon organic cane sugar
  • 2 teaspoons organic olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon organic raw honey
  • Optional: 1 drop of high quality lavender and lemon essential oils.

Instructions:
Mix together all ingredients in a bowl and stir until all oil and honey is absorbed fairly evenly. If you need to add a bit more oil, feel free, but you don’t want to put too much and have an oily mess.

Application:
Two ways to apply the paw scrub: rub it on with your fingers or with a towel that has some warm water on it. Rub and scrub gently into each of your dog’s paws and wipe away with warm water and a towel. Keep in the refrigerator if you don’t use all the scrub!’
